FC Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 or FC Schalke 04, is a German football club originally from the Schalke district of Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Schalke has long been one of the most popular football teams in Germany, even though major successes have been rare since the club’s heyday in the 1930s and early 1940s. The football team is the biggest part of a large sports club with more than 75,000 members (September 2008) making it the second largest sports club in Germany.
Schalke 04 currently lie in 6th place in the 2008/09 Bundesliga. They finished in 2nd place in the league in each of the last three seasons. Their current squad includes German internationals Kevin Kurányi (now retired from international duty), Fabian Ernst, Jermaine Jones and Gerald Asamoah.
Schalke 04’s 2008/09 home kits features a moisture-wicking jersey with an embroidered Schalke team badge and an adidas logo with a screened sponsor design at front. FC Schalke 04 is screened onto the front of the crewneck collar. It has mesh ventilation and ClimaCool moisture control.
