Video: L.A. Galaxy 1 – Real Salt Lake 1. RSL wins 5-4 on PKs (MLS Cup 2009)

Robbie Russell’s seventh round penalty kick gave underdogs Real Salt Lake a 5-4 shootout victory over David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy last night in the final of MLS Cup 2009.

Mike Magee scored in the 41st minute for Los Angeles off a cross by captain Landon Donvan. However, RSL regrouped at the half to outplay the Galaxy in the second period of the game and tied the match 1-1 on a goal from U.S. international Robbie Findley 64th minute. However, neither team could break the deadlock over the next 56 minutes of regular and extra time.

Galaxy and Jamaica starting goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts was replaced by Josh Saunders in the 66th minute following a hand injury.

David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy are through to the Final of MLS Cup 2009 following last night’s extra time 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo at the Home Depot Center.

In a match interrupted by two power outages, veteran defender Gregg Berhalter and USA captain Landon Donovan scored for the Galaxy in extra time following 90 minutes of scoreless soccer. The newly-crowned MLS Western Conference champions Galaxy will now play in their sixth MLS Cup on November 22 at Seattle’s Qwest Field against the winner of tonight’s Chicago Fire – Real Salt Lake Eastern Conference Final.

England Squad for Brazil Friendly

England coach Fabio Capello has named the following 24-man squad for November 14th’s money-spinning friendly against Brazil in Qatar.

Veteran midfielder David Beckham was selected for England but will be withdrawn from the squad if his Los Angeles Galaxy club team advances in the MLS playoffs by beating Chivas USA later tonight.

Defensive blunders punctuated yesterday’s SuperClásico MLS Cup 2009 Playoff game between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA as the teams drew 2-2.

Maicon Santos scored early for Chivas before Mike Magee tied the match at 1-1. Landon Donovan gave Los Angeles a 2-1 lead at halftime. However, Maykel Galindo was able to secure the draw for Chivas USA in the 50th minute.

England international David Beckham played the entire game for L.A. in his first MLS playoff appearance.

The winner next Sunday’s second leg at the Home Depot Center will advance to the conference final.

David Beckham starred in the Los Angeles Galaxy’s 2-0 victory against Toronto FC on Saturday night at The Home Depot Center in L.A.

Beckham notched the Galaxy’s first goal in the ninth minute and assisted Edson Buddle on the second goal in the 83rd.

New Toronto signing Julian de Guzman featured for the full 90 minutes for Toronto F.C.
